What information SIC collects and how.
SIC collects two types of information from a web site visitor. "Anonymous information" and "personally identifiable information." Anonymous information is information that cannot be tied back to a particular individual. For example, each time a visitor arrives at the SIC site, SIC collects some information to improve the overall quality of a visitor's experience at the SIC site. Anonymous information SIC collects may include your IP address (e.g. whether you are logging in from a .com, .gov, .edu, .net or other domain), referral data (e.g. the last site you visited before clicking through to SIC), along with browser and platform type.

In addition to the anonymous information, SIC may also collect personally identifiable information. Personally identifiable information is any information that tells SIC who you are, such as your name, mailing address, financial transaction data, or email address. Wherever and whenever SIC collects personally identifiable information, SIC will include a link to this Privacy Policy on that page.

SIC is a subscription-based web site and has at least two types of visitors that may provide personally identifiable information. It is possible to visit SIC and to view certain areas of the SIC site without providing any personally identifiable information. However, visitors desiring to subscribe to the SIC data services will be asked to provide personally identifiable information. Additionally, non-subscribing visitors who wish to evaluate a sample of the data services available to subscribers of SIC will also be asked to provide personally identifiable information.

In some cases, SIC also collects information about you and your use of the SIC site through the use of Cookies. "Cookies" are small computer files that SIC transfers to your computer's hard drive that allow SIC to know how often someone visits the SIC site and the activities they conduct while there. This file identifies your browser but not you to SIC computers whenever you visit the SIC site. A Cookie will not let a web site know any personally identifiable information about you, such as your real name. Once you close your web browser, the Cookie simply terminates. If you reject the Cookie, you may still use the SIC site. However, this may limit your participation in certain areas of the SIC site.

The actual "School Information" residing within the SIC services site, and thereby, made available to SIC subscribers (and in a limited manner as samples to non-subscribers), is not collected on the SIC site. This school information is collected through a combination of sources including the American School Directory web site located at www.asd.com with the Privacy Policy for that data and data collection process located at www.asd.com/cgi-bin/asd/ASDPrivacyPolicy.

How SIC uses the information collected
Certain areas within the SIC site require the visitor to provide personally identifiable information to order data services or to register with SIC. You will know when this information is being requested because you will be asked to complete a form and return it to SIC. SIC collects this personally identifiable information to complete business transactions, deliver products and services, and provide customer support. SIC does not sell or otherwise share this personally identifiable information externally.

SIC does, however, use personally identifiable information for marketing purposes. If you supply personally identifiable information, you may receive periodic mailings or emails from SIC with information on new SIC products or services. If you do not want to receive any additional announcement regarding new services you may contact us online at sales@asddataservices.com or call us at 1-877-742-7297. Please be prepared to provide us with your exact name, address and other contact information. We will be sure your name is removed from our marketing contact lists.

How SIC protects the information collected
SIC maintains strict confidentiality and enforces stringent security safeguards with respect to all personally identifiable information collected. SIC wants your personally identifiable information and e-commerce transaction information to remain as secure and as private as reasonably possible. On the technical side, SIC uses SSL - Secure Socket Layer - to help ensure the integrity and privacy of the personally identifiable information you provide to SIC over the Internet. On the employee side, only authorized SIC employees are permitted to access your personally identifiable information. All SIC employees must abide by this Privacy Policy, and those who violate it are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, a customer service representative) are granted access to personally identifiable information. Finally, the servers on which SIC stores personally identifiable information are housed in a secure and protected environment.
